Care for Clothing Worth Keeping
Alterations and mending allow garments to continue serving their purpose as bodies change and wear occurs. This work supports longevity rather than replacement.
At Twila Smoker Sewing Designs, alterations are approached as skilled, measured work guided by fabric, construction, and use.
Many garments today, both formal and informal, are made from man-made materials, and alteration and mending services are provided for these garments as well. Each piece is evaluated with attention to fabric behavior and construction, as synthetic materials can limit how a garment may be reshaped or repaired. While these garments can still benefit from careful alteration, clients are encouraged over time to seek out natural fibers or well-chosen blends when reimagining their wardrobe, as these materials better support fit, repair, and long-term wear.
